MMID Full Form - What does MMID stand for?
MMID stands for
Mobile Money Identifier
Mobile Money Identifier (MMID) is a seven-digit number issued by a bank to a customer for making Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transfers without entering full account details. Each MMID is linked to one specific bank account, and the same customer can hold different MMIDs for different accounts at the same or other banks. To receive money using MMID, the customer shares the MMID together with the mobile number registered with the bank; to send money this way, the payer enters the beneficiary's mobile number, MMID and the amount, and the debit happens through the payer's own mobile banking channel. MMID was designed so that people could transfer funds even when they did not know the beneficiary's bank branch or IFSC, which was especially useful before UPI addresses became common. A small authorization OTP is often required to complete the transfer. If a mobile number changes, the bank must be informed so the MMID mapping can be updated, otherwise transfers to that number will fail. Although UPI has reduced day-to-day use of MMID, the identifier is still supported by bank apps and remains part of the IMPS specification for cardless, account-to-account credits.
